Teacher's Toolbox

The Library Resources for the Child of Divorce is a program that has been designed for the child of divorce to have resources in their school. This project will allocate ten books, all different authors, dealing with divorce and blended families for appropriate grade levels in the school.  These books should be given a divorce/fiction label for teachers and students to easily recognize this new genre of resources.  “Writing is a form of therapy; sometimes I wonder how all those, who do not write, compose, or paint can manage to escape the madness, the melancholia, the panic fear, which is inherent in a human condition”

-Graham Green, novelist, short-story writer, playwright, and journalist from 1904-1991

Homework policies for a blended classroom really need to address some of the following questions:

--What kind of homework is most effective?
--How much homework is appropriate?
--At what age level is homework a useful learning tool?
--Who is responsible for monitoring homework?

When you are creating your homework policy for your classroom, if you are expecting parent involvement, a contract needs to be signed by both parents and/or any other caretakers.  It is extremely important that the child not be put in the middle of homework disputes, but that a clear plan is put in place before the homework is ever assigned.

“I lived half a week with one parent, the second half with the other.  Weekends were alternated.  If this sounds confusing, it was.  I had to keep track of everything with a calendar.” Phoebe, 13 yrs., main character in The Divorce Express
